Jesus and You

"Who do you say I am?"

Jesus Christ asked this question of his friends and each of us has to ask ourselves: "Who do I say Jesus is?"
In all of history, he has the strongest following of anyone who claimed to be God. So, who is Jesus to you: Friend and God? Great role model? Distant historical figure?
The Christ EventWe all grow up with different ideas presented to us about Jesus.
Sooner or later, we have to ask ourselves, what do we believe? How are you and Jesus getting on?
As Catholics, Jesus is our Good News. We have plenty of evidence to prove he was a real historical figure and so the question then becomes: Do we believe he is God who came among us? Take a look at what he said and did. If we believe Jesus is God then it becomes critical to know what he is saying to us.

Our invitation - live life to the full!

Jesus offers us all the love that God can give us! He invites us to "live life to the full!" This sounds great and is what we all want. For Jesus, a full life means loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and loving our neighbour as our self.

Loving God and others brings us into a life of prayer and a life of service. People speak of the great joy and challenge they have found in following Jesus Christ.

Emperors - quote from NapoleanOur challenge - Life in the Spirit!

Jesus says: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses."

Jesus wants us to be his hands and feet in today's world, offering hope and healing, to bring people into God's love. Our faith is not selfish, and it is such good news we want to share it with everyone. He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit so that we may respond to this great calling. A great way to live - our family of faith

Jesus invited us to take up his offer together with others. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, Jesus created a community centred in God's love. If we want to be Jesus' followers, then we are called to live this out in the community of God's love, the church. It is by no means a perfect community, but together we try to be the kind of people Jesus asks us to be. Find out more about our life in the Catholic Church.

Investigate for yourself

There are great places to find out more about Jesus Christ. A great starting point is the Bible itself. Be sure to have an updated edition as early translations are sometimes difficult to read. Then start reading through the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles.

Pray to Jesus now

Pray in your own heart. Open your heart to the presence of the living God. Use your own words, sit quietly, listening with your heart.

If you wish, pray a simple prayer like this one offered by St Richard of Chichester:
Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits which you have given us,
for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us.
Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
may we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly,
day by day.
Amen.
