Jesus Offers

It is rare to meet someone who offers you a way of life so rich that you are prepared to give away everything to take up the offer! Yet time and time again in stories of Jesus, we see people turning away from their old ways and following Jesus.
meaningJesus
The singer Keith Green's lyrics aptly convey a feeling that many people experience:
All my life I have been searching
For that crazy missing part...
I was lost in a fantasy
That blinded me...
Jesus claims to offer THE truth, THE way and THE life. Now that's worth investigating!

In our secret place

It is rare to meet someone who offers you a way of life so rich that you are prepared to give away everything to take up the offer! Yet time and time again in stories of Jesus, we see people turning away from their old ways and following Jesus. The fishermen by the lake leave their boats behind; the tax collectors Matthew and Nicodemus change their ways; even people not of Jesus' faith or nationality take remarkable actions after encountering Jesus.

How can we sum up what Jesus offered though his actions? He offered fullness of life. People discovered new life in his healings, his restoring people to community fellowship and his willingness to respect and love all whom he encountered.

His final act was to die on the cross. He was given the death penalty on trumped up charges. But a central charge he could not deny and that was his belief that he was the Son of God. Jesus died for his beliefs. Christians believe he then rose from the dead, affirming that nothing can come between us and God's love. The way he offers means more than life and death.

Some people see Jesus as a nice person, maybe offering a good example of how to live. Jesus actually asked his followers what people thought of him.
They said that some people saw him as a prophet or special character from Jewish history. Then he challenged his disciples to reveal what they thought of him: "Who do you say I am?" he asked. Peter, the leader of the disciples replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." The word Christ means 'the one who saves'. In Jewish belief someone would come to save the Jewish people and restore things to right.
How do you respond to Jesus' question: Who do you say I am?

Jesus claims to be that Saviour, the one who will save us from the blind alleys and dark places in our lives, who will save us even from death.
He tells us he is "the way, the truth and the life". Christians who follow Jesus do not simply follow a list of teachings or rules, they do not even follow a particular philosophy. We follow a person, and believe that Jesus is God. As God, he invites us into relationship with him.

A life of loveIf you are searching for meaning and spirituality, Jesus invites you to experience fullness of life in him. Jesus claimed to be God and through his life, death and resurrection continues to convince many people of this claim. Yet while we can argue intellectually over different details of that claim, belief is a matter of faith. Where in our life have we experienced something extraordinary: the birth of a child, the glory of love, the wonder of nature, or the hunger for justice and peace. People describe how many of these events make them realise that life is bigger than them and they find in Jesus Christ the one who can make their life complete. Jesus Christ will not take away all our problems, yet is the Truth at the heart of our lives that gives our joys and sorrows, our struggles and successes a context and meaning.

He asks us to join in his mission, to be people of God's reign of truth, justice, love and fellowship. Find out more about our Mission and Outreach.
